In 2020, a precursor to NewsVoy was made to find and post news to Rank the Vote, a voting reform organization. Development continued while adapting to the needs of a growing nonprofit, and NewsVoy is now open to other organizations.
Scotty Vercoe is a producer, activist and lead developer of NewsVoy. He produced the 2018 documentary The Battle for Ranked Choice Voting covering Maine's successful fight to be the first state in the nation to change its voting system. Scotty cofounded Rank the Vote in 2019, and remains on its Board of Directors. He is a graduate of MIT and Oberlin Conservatory.
